Sometimes... stuff happens |
I am a father, husband, son, friend, software developer who loves Ruby, and an unemotional robot ( or at least that's what I've heard ). |
To start, Downtown refers to Downtown Chicago. Not sure why I’m explaining that because, come on, everyone knows that!
I start my day with a long train ride from Elgin. This is good and bad. I’m not really into waiting on the trains schedule to get me someplace but it also affords me extra time during my ride to get some work down that would normally get done later in the evening. At least now when I get home I can devote my mind to my family.
The walk from the train station to work is not bad. It’s only about 11 blocks. Not bad… until one morning the blistering code hits you in the face, grr. So after you get past that, make sure you also have some rain gear! Because there’s nothing like a fast paced 11 block walk to make your train… in the pouring rain without an umbrella. Oh well, you live and learn, right? My coat only smelled like a wet goat for a couple days :-(
My legs, namely chins shins, were apparently not prepared for this kind of walk. Everything else was fine but my dang chins just didn’t get the memo and went on strike. After a few days, the Thanksgiving holiday, and some stretching; I’m good to go!
OK, now for the good stuff.
I am contracting for Obtiva as a software developer. This is awesome on many levels, enough said. The views during my walk are for the most part amazing. This is coming from someone who doesn’t get out of the suburbs all that often so seeing tall buildings is a big deal for me. The people are great too. I get to work with some really great developers whom I look up to.
Mostly this is just rambling but if anyone was interested in what I’ve been doing this past week… now you know!
