Too Many Choices

Recently my wife and I were given the opportunity to go out and get a new TV. This has proved to be a more daunting task than I first thought. We however have narrowed our selection down. This is what we’re looking at… please chime in with your thoughts to help us out!

Samsung 52A650

I personaly love the Samsung, but it has a high glare and I know it will drive my wife nuts! There is one more option as well. The LG 52inch Scarlet. I was not able to find any videos with it so that’s why it is not featured here.

The Man with Many Fabulous Prizes

Although I’ve helped in many ways over the course of the last year in preparing the Windy City Rails conference, tomorrow I will perform the most important task of the day. I know, I know… you’re probably thinking “you’re not David Hansson, or David Chelimsky“. Yeah I’m not those guys, but… I’m the guy that’s gonna be giving you your prizes! And what glorious, might I even say fabulous, prizes they are!

Throughout the day we will be raffling off various O’Reilly and Addison Wesley books, screencasts from Pragmatic, and a free pass to VoicesThatMatter(winner must still pay hotel & airfare. We’re really excited to have these prizes as an extra added bonus to the day. As if you couldn’t feel better about yourself for just attending and knowing that you helped give to the Chicago Food Depository.

Today marked my last day at Follett Software. Come monday morning I will be a new employee of Tukaiz, a print and interactive solutions company. I’ve been recruited for a newish team that develops with Ruby on Rails, so that’s pretty cool. It was a very hard decision to make because I have a family to take care of now. This was truely the first really hard decision I’ve had to make as an adult. Had I still been single, I would have said “you’re gonna pay me to do something I enjoy?…. where do you want me to sign?”, but it’s a lot more than that now. I hate to say it but I actually accepted the new position and then turned it down and then finally accepted again. I’m sure the company probably is thinking that I’m some sort of loon at this point. Hello everyone… I’ve got a larger article coming in the next few days. It’s on setting up a Rails development environment in Windows. I’ve never really done a large post and am taking my time to get it right. I’m hoping it will help the community.

So this is my experiment. I will add this post to Digg to see if it will have any effect on users to get not only ‘dugg’ but to see if someone actually will go and find a better video than what I have already seen.

I just watched this video of Merlin Mann, which I assume is from SXSW 2008. It would be fantastic to get a better copy with maybe less of the audience noise that’s keeping you from actually hearing the presentation. So lemmings… go forth and find me a better video! Um.. I mean please. Help me :-)

UPDATE: Apparently not! :-( At least for this article. It gained absolutely no diggs or any sort of traffic. O, well. So much for that experiment.Similar Posts:

In an recent interview, some interesting facts were made known about Henry Winkler… the hippest cat to ever roll the streets of Milwaukee.

I found this quote really moving:

“I start by saying I am a husband, a father, we have two dogs, I am an actor, a producer, a director and I write children’s books - and I’m in the bottom 3% in America academically. I say to children, ‘You do not know what you can achieve until you put one foot in front of another and try.”

To put this in context, Henry Winkler was diagnosed with dyslexia late in life. Instead of bringing him down… it actually raised him up. It gave a reassurance that he really wasn’t stupid and made him realize that all of his accomplishments were all the more sweeter.

A millionaire by 30 - Dare to dream

If this guy can do it…. you know the rest.

The ‘guy’ in this story will be played by Alan Corey. The story is about him so I figured he was the logical choice.

So the story goes like this, young out of college male with an authority problem.. o yeah he doesn’t get laid either. That’s really most of us right? Anyway he gets this idea that he wants to become a millionaire and that will obviously help him with his other problems. And so the craziness begins with his ‘out of the box’ thinking of ways to save cash.

He was basically living the dream of never leaving ‘college life’ and he actually made it work. Check out the article out over at the Geezeo blog. It’s a good read and he actually quite funny. I love the fact that he calls a playstation his first investment in saving money. There is good reasoning behind it though!
