gChat finally getting some merging of features

It’s nice to see that Google has finally implemented some the features of other gChat iterations into the integrated gmail talk application.
Today we are seeing the group chat and smileys added to gChat for gmail. It’s about time we start seeing features from the three iterations of gChat to start merging. Now only if we can get some file transfer action!

Update: No IMAP for you!

So I just wanted to let you all know that I did finally get the IMAP settings added to my Gmail account, but not in the way you would think. So if I view Gmail using Firefox as I always do anyway…I get nothing. However if I view Gmail while using Internet Explorer (Eck)… presto, chango… IMAP. Ironically it was turned on by default when I got there. Weird, but that’s how it happened.
Has anyone else experienced this? Also, since it was turned on by when I viewed it for the first time.. does this mean that people can try to configure Gmail for their favorite local client...

So it’s been a little less than a week since Google started to roll out the new IMAP access feature for Gmail. Do you know who still doesn’t have it? Yeah, that’s right, me! ( and apparently this guy too ) Anywho, this wouldn’t make me all that annoyed except I’ve always gotten the Gmail features right away. Chances are I probably wouldn’t even use IMAP as I don’t really like having a local email client. Especially since Gmail may actually get a new contact manager which would make me a little happier. This past Christmas, as a present from my fiance, I was given a laptop. What a wonderful gift as I have never had one. My goal was to get a Macbook but it was a little pricier than we wanted to pay. Maybe next time!
