Thoughts on: Why I hate telephones

Today my friend made a post about why he hates telephones that I found rather amusing but so true. It basically goes into why current ‘first world’ societies find it necessary to stay in constant communication. I added the whole ‘first world’ thing in there to sound more intellectual cause I rarely get a chance… his article is more of a rant about ‘people’. We really don’t need to worry about ‘third world’ societies calling us at all hours of the day… yet.

I have a cellphone that costs me megabucks every month, and I still have yet to learn why I really need it. For me it’s more of a handset thing. All about the technology for me. My fiance on the other hand is one to use the phone as a phone. I rarely make calls on it. I’m more of a text message guy. O, and I’ve got to have a full keyboard. Recently I went back to using a Samsung T619 from my Treo 650 and am sort of bummed about it.

Anyway, back to his article, sorry I got a little side tracked. What I got from his article is pretty much how I feel anyway. Just because we CAN call and keep in contact anytime, anywhere… doesn’t mean we SHOULD. It’s really more of an etiquette situation. There are very few moments in our lives when it’s extremely necessary to be in contact with someone at the slightest drop of a thought.
